Minutes of Unity Council Meeting

Monday, May 21, 2018

The regular meeting of the Unity Council was held in the Calvin Room at 6:00 pm with Rev. Doug Workman Moderator.

COMMITTEES:

Property & Finance:

Mike shared he has a notice on a bank account from many years ago and it has a $9,824. balance. Discussion was held on what we should do with it. Sheri made a motion and Betty seconded to close the account and transfer it to our general fund with a label of emergencies and repairs, but also give $500 to the Salvation Army. MSC.

Personnel/Nominating:

Reported that a few members have been asked and they declined. Mike will do a minute for mission to the congregation to see if we could get some help.

Worship & Music / Mission & Education:

Bible Study is underway and eight people have attended.

Mike reported that Vicki does not know of anyone who can fill in for her when she is absent. Sheri suggested that Verlynn put this need in our newsletter to our members asking if anyone knows of a piano or organ player we could ask to fill in.

Other suggestions included having someone record Vicki playing a few hymns to use through sound system or Pastor Workman has a DVD we could use that projects the words and plays through the sound system.

Mission: Mike said he is still thinking on this topic and what we could possibly do for this area.

NEW BUSINESS:

MSC to have next meeting in August and not meet in June and July. If something arises, a meeting will be called.

MSC to approve transfer of membership for John and Mary Ann McClellan.

Per Capita: John reported 23 members have paid. We might have members that have paid through their contribution but have not stated it. He would like to have this number printed in the bulletin to remind members to pay this and that it is not coming out of their pledge. MSC to publicize this (bulletins and newsletter) and to also let members know they can help others with this expense.

Security Bank Investments: John gave us a proposal for the endowment fund. MSC to move forward with this proposal.

Katie Larson: John asked who will bill us for our $500 portion or if we can just send to the Presbytery. MSC to pay and send this amount to Presbytery. This amount will come out of 608 Miscellaneous expense under pastor.

Grant seeking: Pastor Workman is going to contact a grant writer that he knows and report back to us on options.

June Elder is Lois. She asked if we were having social fellowship during the summer months. We are going to have them but watch attendance and make decision weekly. Also, Mike will mention in his minute for mission to help with treats for fellowship.
